PTE Core test dates

There is no PTE Core calendar to download. The test runs on demand at Pearson test centres, which means the question is not "when is the next date" but "which slots does my centre have this week". Here is how availability works and how to choose a date that fits results timing, validity and your immigration timeline.

How on-demand testing works

Pearson delivers PTE Core on computers at authorised test centres, and each centre publishes its own sessions. A large city centre may run sessions several times a day, six or seven days a week; a small centre may run a few mornings a week. When you search in myPTE, you see the real slots for the centres near the place you enter, with times and remaining seats, and you choose one. Pearson's booking guide says a slot must be at least 24 hours ahead (as of October 2026, check Pearson's site). Sessions are added on a rolling basis, so looking a few months out often shows fewer slots than looking two weeks out, not because they are full but because they have not been released yet.

The practical consequence is that PTE Core dates are rarely the constraint. In most Canadian cities and in the large Indian cities you can usually sit within a week; the constraint is whether you are ready. The exceptions are small centres and busy periods, discussed below.

Finding dates

  1. Open the availability search in myPTE and choose PTE Core by answering that you want to go to Canada for immigration or citizenship. Make sure the search is for PTE Core and not PTE Academic; the two look alike and IRCC accepts only one.
  2. Enter a city or postcode. The results list the nearest centres and their next available sessions.
  3. Widen the search if you need a specific day. A centre an hour away may have the Saturday morning you want when the central one does not.
  4. Check the time of day. Afternoon sessions suit people who are slow to start; morning sessions suit people who tire during a two-hour test. Part 3 (Listening) is where fatigue shows, so book for the time of day when you concentrate best.

How far ahead to book

Book when two conditions are both true: your last two timed mock tests are at or above target in every skill, and the date is at least fifteen days away. The second condition exists because Pearson's policy, as of October 2026, lets you reschedule free only up to 14 days before the test; closer than that you must cancel, with a 50% refund between 13 and 8 days and nothing at 7 days or fewer (check Pearson's site). Booking three to four weeks ahead gives you a free escape hatch if the final mock disappoints, while still fixing a date that keeps you working.

Booking months ahead has one benefit, commitment, and one cost, uncertainty. If you do it, put a reminder in your calendar for the fifteenth day before the test and decide then whether to keep the date.

Busy periods

Demand for PTE Core follows the immigration calendar rather than the academic one. Slots tighten in the weeks after a large Express Entry draw, around provincial nomination intake openings, and at the end of the calendar year when people try to get a valid result before profiles expire. Weekend mornings fill first everywhere. If you need a specific weekend in a small centre, book it two to three weeks ahead; weekday afternoons can usually be found at shorter notice.

Results timing and what it means for your date

Pearson says most PTE Core results arrive within two business days and some take up to five (as of October 2026, check Pearson's site). Count business days, not calendar days: a Friday afternoon sitting may report on Tuesday, a Saturday sitting on Wednesday. If you are timing the test against a deadline, such as the expiry of an Express Entry profile, a provincial stream closing or a document request from IRCC, sit at least two weeks before the deadline. That leaves room for the five-business-day case and for a short, focused retake if one skill misses by a point.

Validity and when to sit

A PTE Core result is valid for two years from the test date, and IRCC requires the result to be less than two years old both when you submit an Express Entry profile and when you apply for permanent residence after an invitation. That makes too early a real risk. If you sit the test eighteen months before you expect to enter the pool, the result may expire while you wait for an invitation, and you will pay for a second test. The right time is when the rest of your file (education assessment, work experience, documents) is close to ready, so that the two-year clock runs while the profile is active.

For citizenship, the language result is one document among several and the two-year rule still applies; sit the test when you are within a year or so of being eligible to apply.

A planning timeline

Weeks before the testWhat to do
8 to 12Learn the nineteen task formats. Do a first timed mock to find the gap per skill (the planning calculator turns a mock into targets).
4 to 8Daily practice weighted to the weakest skill. Second mock at the end.
3 to 4Book a slot. Choose a time of day you concentrate well.
2 to 3Final mock. Decide by day 15 whether to keep the date; rescheduling is still free.
1Short daily sessions, no new material. Check your passport name matches the booking exactly.
Test dayArrive 30 minutes early with your passport. See the test-day page.
AfterResults in myPTE, typically within two business days. Share with IRCC from the account.

Retake dates

There is no waiting period between PTE Core sittings and no limit on attempts. A retake can be booked for the next available slot, which means the discipline has to come from you. The only retake worth the fee is one preceded by at least a week of practice on the skill that missed, confirmed by a mock. Booking the next morning after a disappointing result is the most common way to pay twice for the same score.

Quick answers

Are there PTE Core test dates in my city?

If a Pearson centre near you offers PTE Core, it offers it on its own schedule, usually several times a week. The only way to see real dates is the availability search in myPTE.

Can I take PTE Core at home?

No. Pearson states that PTE Core is test-centre only (as of October 2026, check Pearson's site).

How late can I book?

At least 24 hours before the session, subject to seats (Pearson's booking guide, October 2026).

Do dates differ between PTE Core and PTE Academic?

Both run on demand at the same centres, often in the same sessions. What matters is that you select PTE Core when you book.

This page describes Pearson's published availability and policies as of October 2026 and IRCC's validity rule. Confirm both before booking.
